California-raised singer-songwriter Dakota Caden makes her introduction with “Common Decency,” a country-leaning pop single built around the things we think, type out, and ultimately leave sitting in our Notes app. Instead of dressing up frustration, Caden lets the song feel conversational and personal, capturing that particular kind of irritation that comes from realizing you were asking someone for nothing more than basic respect.

An acoustic cover of Ella Langley and Riley Green’s “You Look Like You Love Me” reached millions of views and earned recognition from Langley herself, while previews of “Common Decency” have generated more than two million views and collected over 3,000 pre-saves ahead of its release.
“Common Decency” succeeds because it doesn’t try to make heartbreak or frustration sound more dramatic than it actually is. Instead, Dakota Caden takes a painfully familiar situation; the things you wish you had said during or after a relationship and turns it into an honest, conversational country-pop track.
The guitar-driven arrangement immediately creates a relaxed atmosphere, but the lyrics introduce a sharper emotional edge underneath it. Caden’s vocal delivery feels natural rather than overly theatrical, which makes the song’s frustration more believable.
