CHAPEL Turn Blind Optimism Into Fuel With New Single “White Lie”

Sometimes optimism has nothing to do with evidence. Sometimes you keep believing something will work because giving up feels even less possible. Nashville duo CHAPEL, made up of Carter and Kortney, turn that stubborn, almost irrational hope into their latest single, “White Lie,” available now across streaming platforms.

The track serves as the opening statement for the duo’s forthcoming LP, EVERYTHING LOUD, arriving November 13, and introduces a louder, more immediate chapter in CHAPEL’s ongoing evolution. Driven by angular guitar work and a restless rhythmic pulse, “White Lie” carries the kinetic edge of indie rock while maintaining the accessibility of a pop-minded vocal hook. Influences from bands such as Bloc Party and Foals can be felt in its sharp guitar textures and forward momentum, but CHAPEL shape those elements into something that feels built for both crowded festival fields and smaller, sweatier rooms.

At its core, “White Lie” is about convincing yourself that everything is going to be okay even when reality is offering very little evidence to support that belief. That tension gives the song its energy. Rather than sinking into defeat, CHAPEL push forward, turning uncertainty into movement and doubt into something almost celebratory. The release arrives while the duo is doing exactly what they have spent much of their career doing: being on the road.

CHAPEL are currently traveling across the country alongside Michigander on a 17-date tour running through October 24, giving audiences an early opportunity to experience the new material in a live setting.

The road has been a defining part of CHAPEL’s story. Carter and Kortney have spent nearly a decade developing their sound through constant touring, sharing stages with Waterparks, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, 3OH!3, and Against The Current, while also taking their music beyond the U.S. behind their debut album, Sunday Brunch. But their trajectory hasn’t always moved according to plan.

In 2019, Alt Nation premiered “Friends,” the lead single from a completed follow-up album that was poised to become the duo’s next major chapter. Then the world shut down. Touring disappeared. The album was shelved. And CHAPEL suddenly had to figure out what their future looked like without the touring machine that had shaped so much of their identity.

Instead of waiting for normality to return, the duo adapted. They eventually emerged with the Room Service EP, led by “Pillowtalk,” which arrived in January 2021 and earned another Alt Nation premiere. It was a reminder that even with the live music world temporarily frozen, CHAPEL’s connection with their audience had not disappeared. Their next evolution came through Nashville producer Michael Guillot, whose collaboration with the duo helped reshape the way Carter and Kortney approached writing and recording.

That partnership became Modern Nature, released in July 2025. Drawing inspiration from the bright, kinetic worlds of Passion Pit, Phoenix, and early-2010s festival indie, the record found CHAPEL leaning into color, movement, melody, and a more expansive sonic identity without losing the personality that had carried them through years on the road. Now, EVERYTHING LOUD pushes that momentum even further.

The forthcoming EP promises a CHAPEL that is more confident in its instincts and less interested in standing still. The guitars hit harder, the songwriting is sharpened, and the energy feels deliberately immediate. “White Lie” offers the first glimpse of that next era.

There is something fitting about beginning this chapter with a song about believing in something despite the evidence. CHAPEL’s career has repeatedly required that same kind of persistence: surviving a shelved record, navigating a global shutdown, rebuilding their creative process, and continuing to find new ways forward. Nearly a decade into their journey, Carter and Kortney aren’t looking backward.

They’re making noise, getting back on the road, and betting on whatever comes next. “White Lie” is out now, with CHAPEL’s EVERYTHING LOUD LP arriving November 13.
