Seattle’s North Beach Gritty are bringing a literary sensibility to blues-driven rock with the release of their new self-titled EP, available now on streaming platforms alongside the single “Maybe Don’t.”
Led by songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Josh Braff, the project merges vivid storytelling with gritty guitar work and expansive rock arrangements. Known for his work as a novelist, Braff has found a new creative outlet in music, trading the printed page for a sound built around raw emotion, blues influences, and cinematic production.
Braff’s literary background includes his debut novel, The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green, published by Algonquin Books. His transition into music gained momentum after a New York performance caught the attention of veteran producer and engineer Bruce Buchanan, who recognized an emotional quality in Braff’s delivery that stood out to him. That initial connection led to a recording partnership that helped bring North Beach Gritty’s musical vision to life.
The new EP features an accomplished lineup of musicians, including Heart drummer Ben Smith, Monster Magnet drummer Bob Pantella, guitarists Nick Powell and Oz Noy, Grammy-winning slide guitarist Robert Randolph, and bassist Geoff Ott. Produced by Buchanan, the release brings together seasoned musicianship, expressive guitar tones, and story-driven songwriting. Following the band’s debut full-length album, North Beach Gritty continues to develop its distinctive blend of blues-based rock and narrative depth, showcasing Braff’s move into a louder, more expansive form of storytelling.
