Andrew Scotchie Confronts America’s Uncertainty and Calls for Change on New Single “Just Dream”

Asheville-based musician Andrew Scotchie is turning the uncertainty of the present into a call for hope with his latest single, “Just Dream,” out now on all streaming platforms. Combining the grit of rock and roll with a pointed reflection on the current political and social climate in America, the track asks listeners to consider how we continue to envision a better world when reality makes that vision increasingly difficult to hold onto.

Rather than keeping its message at a distance, “Just Dream” incorporates audio captured during protests in Minneapolis, bringing the voices and tension of real-world events into the song itself. The result is a release that connects music with the moment we are living through, challenging listeners to look beyond the chaos and consider the possibility of change.

The single also arrives with a companion music video directed by Callum Scott-Dyson, whose creative work spans filmmaking, animation and stop-motion production. Through CSD Animation, Scott-Dyson has created animated music videos for artists including Dinosaur Jr., Paul Cauthen and Milky Chance. His visual approach adds another dimension to Scotchie’s latest release.

The track marks the third preview of Scotchie’s upcoming 2027 album, following the previously released singles “If I Was A Bird” and “In Your Light.” Together, the releases begin to reveal an album shaped by personal reflection, collective hardship and the search for something better.

A lifelong product of Asheville’s vibrant music community, Scotchie has built his reputation on performances fueled by unfiltered rock and roll energy. His sound draws from the timeless swagger of the Rolling Stones, the blues-driven approach of Lightnin’ Hopkins and the rebellious spirit of punk. Yet beyond the volume and intensity, his songwriting is grounded in a desire to connect with people and challenge the world around him.

That perspective carries particular weight on his forthcoming record. The lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina have helped shape its exploration of perseverance, community and the work required to move forward in times of uncertainty. For Scotchie, music becomes a way to examine the divisions surrounding us without losing sight of the people and connections that make rebuilding possible.

His commitment to community extends well beyond the stage. At just 16 years old, Scotchie founded Barnaroo, a music festival created to bring people together while raising funds for the Asheville Music School. That early initiative reflected values that continue to inform his career: using music not simply as a form of expression, but as a means of giving back and creating meaningful connections.

With “Just Dream,” Scotchie brings those ideals into focus, pairing the urgency of the present with the enduring belief that a different future remains possible. As he looks toward his 2027 album, he continues to use rock and roll as a platform for honest storytelling, social awareness and the kind of hope that demands more than simply wishing for change.
