Canadian doom metal outfit YETI ON HORSEBACK have released the official video for their towering new single, “Drug Addict,” offering fans a haunting first look at their upcoming album, Traditional Addictions, arriving July 24.
Serving as the album’s opening track, “Drug Addict” wastes no time establishing the tone for what’s to come. Stretching nearly fourteen minutes, the song delivers a relentless wall of crushing riffs, suffocating atmosphere, and emotionally raw lyricism that explores the destructive cycle of addiction. Rather than glorifying the subject, the track captures the repetitive highs and devastating lows that accompany dependency, making for one of the band’s most emotionally weighty releases to date.
The accompanying video, directed by David Hall, expands on those themes through unsettling imagery and an extended cinematic introduction. The film builds tension before the song even begins, creating an experience that feels more like a psychological short film than a traditional music video.

Speaking about the song, vocalist and guitarist R.P. describes “Drug Addict” as the ideal way to open the record, explaining that its straightforward lyrics intentionally reflect the obsessive mindset of addiction while also including subtle nods to one of the band’s biggest musical influences.
Vocalist S.S. echoed that sentiment, noting that the band’s layered vocal arrangements and immersive sound design were created to place listeners inside the chaotic mental state of someone struggling with addiction, adding another dimension to the already crushing composition.
Hailing from London, Ontario, YETI ON HORSEBACK have built a reputation around massive doom-driven compositions that blend crushing heaviness with an unmistakable sense of atmosphere. Drawing influence from bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Yob, and Melvins, the group has carved out its own identity through towering riffs, harsh vocals, and lyrics that explore darker aspects of the human experience. Their 2016 debut, The Great Dying, even earned praise from Metal Injection, which called the band “doom’s hope for the future.”
Their upcoming full-length, Traditional Addictions, was recorded with Greg Dawson over the course of four years and centers around the relationship between trauma and addiction, examining how each can fuel the other across generations. According to the band, the album represents their strongest work so far, refining the crushing sound fans have come to expect while introducing thicker production, richer vocal layers, and a more focused overall approach.
The album’s visual presentation was created in collaboration with Jes Dunn of Ad Astra Tattoo, whose field-journal-inspired artwork complements the record’s themes. Traditional Addictions will be available on both vinyl and digital platforms, with the vinyl edition pressed on 180-gram, 45 RPM vinyl and packaged with an art insert designed to further immerse listeners in the album’s concept.
With “Drug Addict,” YETI ON HORSEBACK aren’t simply releasing another doom metal track—they’re delivering an immersive statement piece that confronts addiction head-on through overwhelming heaviness, cinematic storytelling, and uncompromising honesty. If this opening chapter is any indication, Traditional Addictions is shaping up to be the band’s most ambitious and emotionally devastating release yet.
