Some songs are meant to entertain. Others are designed to leave listeners with an unsettling feeling long after the final note fades. Eldritch Shade’s single, “Anantashesha,” firmly belongs in the latter category.
The anonymous project, led by Exsanguinor and Xaulthiuun, embraces crushing heaviness, mythological storytelling, and cinematic atmosphere to create what they describe as their most ambitious release yet. Inspired by the Hindu serpent Anantashesha and the SCP-3000 mythos, the single marks a turning point for the band as they continue refining their identity through anonymity and increasingly apocalyptic soundscapes.
Ahead of the song’s release, LoudHER Media spoke with Exsanguinor about the inspiration behind “Anantashesha,” experimenting with melody, creating the eerie music video, and why the project’s greatest strength lies in letting the music speak louder than the people behind it.
The inspiration for “Anantashesha” came after Exsanguinor discovered the massive sea serpent from Hindu mythology while researching SCP-3000.
“The song is the lead single for our EP called ‘Anantashesha,’ which is a sea serpent at the bottom of the ocean that is hundreds of miles long. It makes people forget reality entirely, and when I was reading up on it, I was like, ‘What the fuck? This is so cool.‘”
That overwhelming sense of scale became the foundation for both the music and accompanying video. Rather than simply telling a story, the band wanted listeners to feel as though they were witnessing the summoning of something incomprehensibly powerful.
“I really wanted the viewer to feel like I was summoning something. The subject matter about the serpent and its immeasurable size and godlike qualities needed something like this.”
The title itself was an easy choice.
“The name came from the serpent of the same name, from Hindu mythology. I thought that would be a cooler sounding title for the song and EP than just ‘SCP-3000.’”
Although Eldritch Shade already has two EPs behind them, the band believes “Anantashesha” represents the moment everything finally clicked creatively.
What began as an idea from Xaulthiuun gradually evolved into something much bigger.
“This is the heaviest and most apocalyptic sound we have made so far… We just wanted to have fun. But now, with two EPs under our belt, we finally feel like we hit our stride in what we want to do. It’s gonna be evil as fuck.”
That evolution also led the band into new territory musically. While devastating breakdowns remain a staple, “Anantashesha” introduces melodic clean vocals for the first time.
“The melodic choruses were my favorite part to write. I always love writing filthy breakdowns, but this is the first time we experimented with clean vocals and melody to make a huge hook.”
Unlike many anonymous acts, Eldritch Shade isn’t interested in building mystery for its own sake.
Instead, Exsanguinor says anonymity exists to keep the focus where it belongs.
“We just wanted the music to carry the message, not the faces behind it.”
Operating under monikers also allows him to step outside expectations attached to his real identity.
“It kinda lets me get out of the box that my actual persona is known for in real life… it’s pretty cool to be able to experiment.”
Ultimately, the band’s goal is for listeners to leave thinking about the experience itself rather than analyzing technical performances.
“I want them to feel as if we are vessels of something far bigger and more powerful than we can ever comprehend. I want people to walk away going, ‘Whoa, what the hell was that?‘”
With “Anantashesha,” Eldritch Shade isn’t simply releasing another heavy track; they’re inviting listeners into an immersive world where mythology, crushing soundscapes, and cinematic storytelling collide. As Exsanguinor and Xaulthiuun continue carving out their anonymous vision, it’s clear this is only the beginning of something much larger. If this single is any indication of what’s to come, Eldritch Shade is poised to leave listeners both captivated and unsettled long after the serpent awakens.
