New York City artist Coco Smith has released their latest album You Won’t Get My Message but You’ll Hear It via VHS Records, a deeply personal collection that explores resilience, growth, and the process of finding hope after difficult moments.
Built around gentle folk-rock textures and Smith’s airy, expressive vocals, the album creates an intimate atmosphere where every lyric feels carefully placed. The record moves between moments of vulnerability and quiet confidence, capturing the feeling of pushing through uncertainty and discovering strength on the other side.
The album’s title, taken from the track “Multiform,” reflects the central message behind the project the feeling of trying to be heard while navigating moments of isolation, only to realize that connection can appear in unexpected ways.
“‘You Won’t Get My Message but You’ll Hear It’ is a line in ‘Multiform’ that I think sums up the whole album pretty well,” Coco explains. “It’s the idea of feeling like you’re screaming into the ether and getting nothing back, only to realize that someone really is listening. No matter what, someone is listening and woe is not you anymore. The music has been treated with all the care in the world, which is all I ever wished for but had trouble receiving for a while.”
Throughout the record, Smith transforms personal struggles into moments of reflection and perseverance. Songs like “Tortious” explore feelings of disconnection and the experience of feeling detached from oneself, while “Multiform” channels frustration and emotional intensity into a powerful release.
With its delicate instrumentation, heartfelt storytelling, and focus on healing, You Won’t Get My Message but You’ll Hear It showcases Smith’s ability to turn difficult experiences into something warm, honest, and deeply relatable.
A rising voice within New York’s folk-rock community, Coco Smith has shared stages with artists including Avery Friedman, Wulfer, and Untitled Freak. To celebrate the album’s release, Smith will perform at VHS Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with support from Kid Lake and Laura Elliott.
