There’s no such thing as a quiet Sunday in NYC. This past weekend, Houston, TX-based band JonoJono brought their energy to the city, taking over the stage alongside fellow Tri-State-area natives KayMars, MarkZen, and Bvdmind as part of their “We Asked for More” Tour.
On Sunday, September 20, MarkZen, JonoJono, and Bvdmind took over the underground streets of NYC, bringing a night of loud guitars, raw energy, and nonstop momentum to Bowery Palace
Opening the night, MarkZen immediately set the tone with a rock sound rooted in the influence of heavy hitters like Nirvana, Green Day, and Weezer. They wasted no time turning the volume up to 11, bringing an explosive energy from the very first song. While the crowd may not have started with any crowd surfers, MarkZen quickly changed that, working the room until the energy was impossible to contain.
Even a mid-set mishap couldn’t slow things down when the drummer’s hi-hat took an unexpected tumble and had to be replaced using equipment from JonoJono. Rather than disrupting the night, the moment perfectly captured the spirit of the show: every band had each other’s backs. From sharing equipment to feeding off one another’s energy, the artists came together to create the kind of chaotic, collaborative night that gave the fans exactly what they came for.
JonoJono came in next, bringing their Houston, TX sound to NYC in full force. Celebrating their new EP, We Asked for More, the band pulled the crowd into a genre-blurring mix of punk rock, hip-hop, and alternative/indie influences. Rather than letting those sounds compete for attention, JonoJono moved effortlessly between them—heavy when they wanted to be, melodic when the moment called for it, and always anchored by an undeniable groove.
Their set felt like an orchestra of sound as diverse as the city itself, and they absolutely knew how to serve it up. One moment, the crowd was erupting into a mosh pit; the next, all eyes were locked on the guitarist as they tore through a face-melting solo with a distinctly Hendrix-y haze. That unpredictability is part of JonoJono’s appeal their sound never stays in one place long enough for you to know exactly what’s coming next, and that’s what keeps you locked in.
Closing out the night was New Jersey’s own Bvdmind, and the unpredictability continued right through the final set. With a cameo appearance from Art the Clown, it wouldn’t have been a stretch to assume something seriously heavy was on the way and Bvdmind delivered. But the band didn’t stop at crushing heaviness, weaving in hard-hitting rap rhythms that had the crowd locked in and rapping along word for word.
Bvdmind also celebrated their new single, “Around & Around,” bringing the track to life with a moody melody, steady drumbeat, and grooving bassline. Their ability to shift between darker, heavier moments and infectious rhythmic elements kept the crowd engaged from start to finish. Judging by the energy in the room, Bvdmind was exactly the band needed to close out the night and they went out with a bang.
