Through deeply personal songwriting and a shared commitment to emotional honesty, Out Of My Eyes reflect on the experiences that shape us, the people we lose, and the love that stays with us long after life changes.

Some songs are created to entertain, while others give us a space to confront emotions we may not know how to express. For French metalcore band Out Of My Eyes, music offers an opportunity to explore the full complexity of being human, from overwhelming love to devastating grief. Their song “Nothing Lasts Forever” captures this duality, examining the uncomfortable truth that both our happiest moments and our most painful experiences are temporary.

Beneath the band’s heavy sound lies a deeper artistic vision centered on vulnerability, emotional connection, and the importance of allowing ourselves to feel rather than constantly trying to control our emotions. In this interview, Out Of My Eyes open up about the personal experiences behind “Nothing Lasts Forever,” the role of love in their creative process, and how each band member interprets the meaning of impermanence.

Beyond the Music: The Emotional Core of Out Of My Eyes

When someone hears Out Of My Eyes for the first time, what do you hope they misunderstand about you before they eventually realize what you’re actually about?

“I almost like the idea of people thinking, at first, that we’re just another metal band making good music without necessarily looking much deeper than that. Then, as they dig into what we do, they realize that we’re actually trying to express the full depth of human emotions in a world that has become incredibly digital, fast-paced, and sometimes disconnected from its own feelings.”

For the band, music is about more than creating a particular sound. It is an opportunity to explore the emotional complexity of being human in a world that often leaves little room to slow down and process what we feel.

“To me, being human is both chaos and love. Our emotions often overwhelm us, and instead of constantly trying to control them, I think sometimes we just have to accept them and go through them.”

That philosophy extends throughout the band’s music and the larger universe they are gradually revealing. Rather than presenting everything immediately, they invite listeners to look deeper and discover the ideas connecting their releases.

If you stripped away the genre labels, the production, the imagery, and everything people use to categorize a band, what do you think is the emotional core of Out Of My Eyes?

“I would say love. Not only in a romantic sense, but love as a way of experiencing life fully. Everything we do with this project comes from passion and love, and I think that’s where you find something truly authentic.”

For Out Of My Eyes, love is not limited to happiness or romance. It is also about learning to live with difficult emotions and remaining open to life’s experiences, even when they hurt.

“Learning to love even our darkest moments helps us get through them. Loving the good ones allows us to actually experience them and be fully present while they’re happening. Without love, I don’t think there can truly be life.”

The band believes their music should reflect the vulnerability they bring to their lyrics. By embracing emotional honesty, they create a space where listeners can recognize their own experiences within the music.

“Nothing Lasts Forever”: Between Heartbreak and Healing

The title “Nothing Lasts Forever” sounds almost comforting and devastating at the same time. When you wrote the song, was that idea something you found peace in, or something you were struggling against?

“I definitely struggled against it. For a long time, I felt like I was constantly fighting against something I couldn’t control.”

Accepting that life changes is one thing; finding peace with those changes is another. For the songwriter, the realization did not come easily. Interestingly, it was only after completing the song’s music video that something began to shift.

“Strangely enough, it wasn’t until we finished the music video that I finally felt some kind of peace. It felt like closing a huge chapter of my life.”

Transforming those emotions into lyrics, music, and visuals helped the songwriter give shape to something that had previously been difficult to express. The process became a way of acknowledging an experience rather than continuing to fight against it.

“I think it’s almost impossible to express 100% of what you feel to another person. No one will ever truly feel exactly what you carry in your heart. Love can be absolutely devastating and incredibly comforting at the same time.”

That contradiction sits at the heart of the song. Love can bring extraordinary happiness while making us vulnerable to loss, and Out Of My Eyes embrace the reality that both feelings can exist simultaneously.

There are two ways to interpret “nothing lasts forever”: everything painful eventually ends, but so does everything beautiful. Which side of that realization influenced the song more?

“Honestly, both. One hundred percent.”

The songwriter reveals that the song emerged during a particularly emotional period of their life, when they were experiencing profound love while also facing an unimaginable personal loss.

“While writing the album , small spoiler here and this song in particular, I loved someone incredibly deeply. And during that same period, I lost the most important person in my world: my mother.”

These experiences made the meaning behind “Nothing Lasts Forever” deeply personal. The song’s central contradiction was not simply an idea to explore creatively; it was something the songwriter was living through.

“We’re all born, and one day we all die. So what really remains of us? I think it’s the love we’ve given to the people around us. And the purer and more sincere that love is, the more it continues to exist in some way after we’re gone.”

Although loss changes our lives, the love we receive and give can continue through memories, relationships, and the ways people influence who we become. For the songwriter, that enduring connection offers a different way of understanding what remains after someone is gone.

“If I really had to choose one side, I’d choose this one: everything that hurts eventually comes to an end. Because tomorrow, we’ll have lived one more day. And I think there’s something incredible about that.”

Rather than dismissing the pain of grief, this perspective offers a quiet form of hope. Healing does not necessarily mean forgetting or suddenly feeling better. Sometimes, it simply means continuing forward, one day at a time, until life begins to feel possible again.

When Songwriting Reveals What We Don’t Yet Understand

Sometimes songs are written because we understand something, and sometimes they’re written because we’re desperately trying to understand it. Which category does “Nothing Lasts Forever” fall into for you?

“The lyrics I write often feel bigger than me. I don’t necessarily try to understand everything while I’m writing, because I like keeping some mystery around it. I sometimes feel like my subconscious understands certain things long before I do.”

For the songwriter, creativity is not always about having answers. Sometimes, the writing process allows emotions to emerge before they can be fully understood, making music a form of personal discovery.

“So I write. Then months later, I read the lyrics or listen back to what we created and finally understand what I was actually trying to say. And sometimes, it hits me really hard.”

This process was particularly intense with “Nothing Lasts Forever,” which became both a painful reminder of what the songwriter had experienced and a step toward healing.

“‘Nothing Lasts Forever,’ as well as the final music video we’ll release for this upcoming album, devastated me just as much as they helped me heal.”

There is something powerful about creating a piece of art that reveals feelings its creator has not yet fully processed. Sometimes, music gives us the language to understand an experience only after we have lived through it.

“I think sometimes I simply write because a part of me has already understood something that I’m not consciously ready to understand yet.”

Four Members, Four Perspectives on Impermanence

Although the songwriter’s personal experiences provide an important foundation for “Nothing Lasts Forever,” the phrase means something different to each member of Out Of My Eyes. Their perspectives demonstrate how the same words can inspire freedom, offer comfort, evoke nostalgia, or remind us to appreciate the present.

What does the phrase “nothing lasts forever” mean to you personally? I’d be interested to know if the answers are completely different within the band.

“Finding freedom in life’s uncertainty” Coco explains; “Finding order in the chaos. Nothing is eternal, so truly live the things you feel deep inside you. Do what you genuinely want to do, love the people you want to love, and allow yourself to fully experience whatever life throws at you.”

For Coco, impermanence is a reason to stop allowing fear and other people’s expectations to dictate how we live. The opinions we worry about will eventually fade, too, making it important to prioritize the experiences and relationships that genuinely matter.

“So while we’re here, we might as well be fully alive.”

“The comfort and cruelty of time. To me, it’s a paradox. The same words can feel reassuring at one point in your life and devastating at another.” LVT states.

LVT reflects on how the phrase changes depending on our circumstances. During difficult periods, it can remind us that pain will eventually change. During beautiful moments, however, it reminds us that we cannot hold on to everything forever.

“That’s what I like about this line: it can mean something completely different depending on what you’re going through.”

“The nostalgia of places we cannot return to. To me, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ has a nostalgic feeling. I’m fascinated by liminal spaces, empty places that somehow feel familiar, like memories of a time you can’t go back to.” Clement explains

Clément connects impermanence to the places and moments that become part of our personal histories. Familiar surroundings can hold powerful emotional meaning because they remind us of people, experiences, and versions of ourselves that have changed.

“There’s something beautiful and unsettling about knowing that every moment eventually becomes a memory, and every place will someday exist only in the past.”

“Appreciating what we have while we have it. To me, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ is a reminder that nothing in life is permanent. Whether it’s the people we love, the moments we cherish, or even the things we own, everything eventually comes to an end.” Thomas answers

Thomas sees this awareness as a reason to be more present and intentional with our time, particularly when it comes to the people and experiences that bring us happiness.

“That’s why I believe it’s important to appreciate what we have while we have it and not postpone the things that truly make us feel alive and happy. Otherwise, we risk looking back on life with more regrets than memories.”

Together, these four perspectives expand the meaning of the song beyond grief. Impermanence can encourage us to live authentically, appreciate our relationships, recognize the beauty of our memories, and understand that even our most difficult experiences can change with time.

A Reminder to Keep Living, Loving, and Feeling

What makes “Nothing Lasts Forever” so compelling is its refusal to simplify the human experience. Out Of My Eyes recognize that life can be beautiful and devastating at the same time, and that accepting change does not mean we must stop caring about what we lose.

The songwriter’s reflections on loving deeply while grieving their mother reveal the personal weight behind the song, while the other members’ interpretations show how its message can resonate differently with each listener. At its core, the track is about more than endings. It is about the love we leave behind, the memories that continue to shape us, and the importance of experiencing life while we have the opportunity.

Sometimes, healing means finding peace with what cannot be changed. Sometimes, it means allowing ourselves to feel something before we understand it. And sometimes, it means simply waking up tomorrow and choosing to keep going. Through their music, Out Of My Eyes remind us that impermanence can be painful, but it can also teach us to appreciate what we have, love more openly, and stop postponing the moments that make life meaningful. Because while nothing may last forever, the impact we have on one another can remain long after a moment has passed.
