Interviewer: Storms Within has been together since 2014. Looking back, what was the original vision for the band, and how has it evolved over the years?
Storms Within: “When we started Storms Within in 2014, the goal was pretty simple.. write music that was rocking, heavy, and emotionally driven. We never wanted to fit into one specific genre. We just wanted to create songs that meant something. Thus the name, ‘Storms Within.’ Over the years we’ve all grown as musicians and people, and that growth naturally found its way into the music. The songwriting has become more refined, the performances stronger, and we’ve learned to trust each other creatively. The heart of the band hasn’t changed, but we’ve definitely become more confident in who we are over the years.”
Interviewer: What inspired the name Storms Within, and does it still reflect who you are as musicians today?
Storms Within: “The name represents the battles everyone carries internally. Whether it’s anxiety, loss, self-doubt, or trying to find your place in the world, everyone has storms within them. Our music has always been about facing those struggles instead of hiding from them. Years later, the name still fits because those themes continue to inspire our writing. “
Interviewer: Erie, Pennsylvania has a strong blue-collar identity. How has growing up and creating music there influenced your sound?
Storms Within: “Erie teaches you resilience. It’s a hardworking city, and nothing is handed to you. You learn to work for every opportunity, and that’s exactly how we’ve approached this band. There’s a grit that comes from growing up here that naturally makes its way into our music. We may not come from a major music market, but that has only made us hungrier to prove ourselves.“
Interviewer: Each member brings something unique to the table. How does everyone’s individual style shape the writing process?
Storms Within: “That’s honestly one of our biggest strengths. Everyone comes from slightly different musical backgrounds, so no one approaches a song exactly the same way. Someone might bring a heavy riff, someone else hears a melody, another member focuses on dynamics or groove. We don’t try to force ideas, we let the songs evolve naturally until they feel like Storms Within. Everyone has a voice, and that’s why the music feels balanced.”
Interviewer: Delusional Confidence has been described as balancing heavy riffs with memorable hooks. What was your overall goal while making the album?
Storms Within: “We wanted to make a record that hit hard without sacrificing melody. Heavy music doesn’t have to lose emotion or memorable choruses. We wanted songs people could bang their heads to while also finding themselves singing the hooks long after the album ended. The goal was to create something powerful, emotional, and grooving.”
Interviewer: Is there a song on the album that challenged you the most creatively or technically?
Storms Within: “Every song had its own challenges, but there was one in particular that went through multiple versions before everything finally clicked… Bad Blood. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t playing the music, it’s knowing when a song is truly finished. We weren’t willing to settle, so we kept refining it until it felt right. Looking back, it was absolutely worth the extra effort but still was a pain.“
Interviewer: Which track do you feel best represents Storms Within, and why?
Storms Within: “That’s a tough question because every song represents a different side of the band. If we had to pick one, we’d probably say the title track, ‘Revenge Tastes Sweet.’ It captures the balance between aggression, melody, emotion, and lyrical honesty that defines Storms Within. It’s a great snapshot of where we are creatively right now. We had been doubted for so long and that song emulates where we are.”
Interviewer: Were there any lyrical themes on the album that came from personal experiences?
Storms Within: “Absolutely. We don’t write about things we don’t believe or haven’t experienced in some way. The album explores themes like perseverance, self-reflection, and overcoming adversity. Specifically, lyrically Erica was going through a lot of hardship and channeled her inner struggles for each song.”
Interviewer: Your music seems built for the stage. What do you want fans to experience during a Storms Within performance?
Storms Within: “We want people to forget about everything outside the venue for however long we’re on stage. Whether someone came to headbang, scream every lyric, or simply escape reality for a while, we want them to leave feeling energized and connected. We give everything we have during every performance because we know people spend their time and money to be there, and we never take that for granted. No matter how small or large the crowd.“
Interviewer: What bands or artists have had the biggest impact on Storms Within’s sound?
Storms Within: “There are a lot of influences spread across the band, which is probably why our sound doesn’t fit neatly into one box. Bands like Killswitch Engage, In This Moment, Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin, Spiritbox, and even classic influences all find their way into our music in different ways. Rather than trying to sound like any one band, we’ve focused on taking inspiration from many artists while developing a sound that’s uniquely Storms Within.”
