Bronx-based metallic hardcore outfit XTINGUISH THE CODE are bringing their uncompromising sound to the forefront with their latest music video for “Falling Down,” the closing track from their newly released sophomore album, The Conflict, out now via Grey Matter Records.
Built from the foundation of New York hardcore, XTINGUISH THE CODE deliver a punishing blend of crushing breakdowns, street level intensity, and groove-heavy aggression. Since forming in 2019, the band has carved out a sound that pulls from hardcore, metal, and hip-hop influences, creating a style that feels both rooted in NYHC tradition and fueled by modern frustration. Their lineup features bassist Dusty Onita, drummer Nate Boogie, guitarist The Professor G Flava, and vocalist BJ Allen, each bringing years of experience from projects including Apparition, No Weapon, Full Scale Riot, and more.
With The Conflict, XTINGUISH THE CODE expand beyond simple aggression and dive into a larger narrative centered around societal struggles, working class unity, and personal awakening. The album follows the transformation of an everyday individual as they confront the realities around them, evolving from passive observer into someone driven to take action.
“Falling Down” serves as a fitting finale to that journey. The track wastes no time delivering a relentless assault of heavy riffs, commanding vocals, and a tense atmosphere that captures the feeling of reaching a breaking point. Rather than relying solely on brute force, the song carries a sense of urgency and emotional weight, reflecting the frustration and anger that builds when someone feels pushed beyond their limits.
Vocalist BJ Allen explains the meaning behind the track: “‘Falling Down’ is about a citizen, reaching their final breaking point.”
The accompanying video, filmed by Jojo Moran, mirrors the song’s intensity with a raw visual approach that complements the track’s themes of conflict and resistance.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Joe Kusak at Amplitude Recording, The Conflict marks a new chapter for XTINGUISH THE CODE, introducing both new members and a more ambitious creative direction. The album also features guest vocals from former frontman Kevin Lugo on “Safe Space,” adding another layer to the band’s evolving identity.
