Boorloo/Perth artist ALEIA returns with a darker, more volatile side of her artistry on ‘Willpower’, a gripping grunge pop single that transforms betrayal, resentment and the desire for revenge into something both haunting and cathartic. Released alongside an atmospheric accompanying music video, the track finds ALEIA sitting in the uncomfortable space between emotional devastation and the dangerous desire to reclaim control.
Following her debut EP ‘Public Humiliation’, released in November 2025, ‘Willpower’ pushes ALEIA’s songwriting into heavier emotional territory. Produced by Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War, EDIE, Joan & The Giants, Siobhan Cotchin), the single trades in polished pop conventions for something considerably more unsettling, allowing tension to build slowly rather than arriving all at once.
At its core, ‘Willpower’ is about what happens when trust is shattered and anger begins occupying the space where love, security and self-worth once lived.
ALEIA explains:
“‘Willpower’ is a song that explores the chaotic emotional turbulence you experience after someone has betrayed your trust and the extreme lengths someone will go to get even.”
That emotional turbulence is embedded directly into the song’s production. A restrained synth creates an almost hypnotic foundation while sparse overdriven guitars, a deliberate marching snare and brooding piano gradually intensify the atmosphere. Rather than immediately exploding, ‘Willpower’ continually threatens to do so, creating a sense that something darker is waiting just beneath the surface.
ALEIA’s vocals mirror that progression. Her delivery shifts between intimate restraint and increasingly charged vocal rhythms, making the performance feel less like a traditional confession and more like listening to someone’s thoughts become progressively harder to contain.
The accompanying music video, directed and produced by Stephanie Senior of Clearwater Films, expands the song’s themes through the folklore of the Woman in White a supernatural figure often associated with grief, tragedy and an inability to move beyond the circumstances surrounding her death.
