Nashville indie rock outfit Arts Fishing Club enters a new phase with the release of Pocket Full of Mumbles, an album that takes the storytelling and warmth of folk and Americana and throws them into a much louder, more unpredictable world. Nearly three years in the making, the record captures a band willing to take its sound somewhere bigger without losing the humanity at its core.
Tracks like “Feed Me to the Wolves” and “Some Kind of Dangerous” highlight that balance, pairing energetic instrumentation with lyrics centered around uncertainty, resilience, taking chances, and the constant pull toward something new. There is a sense of movement throughout the album, as if the band is embracing the unknown rather than trying to make sense of it.
Frontman Christopher Kessenich sums up the band’s approach perfectly: “We took Paul Simon’s songwriting DNA and turned the amp up.” That idea runs through Pocket Full of Mumbles, where thoughtful songwriting meets the chaotic excitement of rock ‘n’ roll. That adventurous spirit has always been part of Arts Fishing Club’s identity. During Kessenich’s first 4.5-month tour, he traveled more than 1,600 miles on foot, walking from Maine to Atlanta and Nashville while performing 60 shows and staying with strangers along the way.
Since then, the band has taken its music across the country, performing at festivals including Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Treefort Music Fest, and Mile of Music. Following a run of sold-out markets across the U.S., including New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle, and Nashville, Arts Fishing Club continues to build momentum with more than 160,000 monthly Spotify listeners.
