August 28, 2026 – Alternative metal outfit Holywatr are stepping into their latest era with “green room,” a sultry new single that finds the band leaning into tension, temptation, and the kind of backstage story that probably wasn’t meant to make it into a song.
Arriving during an already momentum heavy year for the group, “green room” comes just ahead of Holywatr’s upcoming North American tour, giving fans another glimpse into the band’s increasingly confident sound. Rather than relying solely on sheer heaviness, the track builds its impact through contrast and quiet seduction eventually giving way to a much larger and more aggressive sonic release. At the center is vocalist Patrick Middleton, whose smooth, controlled delivery gives the opening of the song an almost dangerous calm. There is a sense that something is about to happen, but Holywatr wisely takes its time getting there. The guitars and drums gradually begin tightening the tension until the track finally erupts into its heavier chorus.
That push and pull is where “green room” becomes particularly effective. The song doesn’t treat intimacy and aggression as opposing ideas; instead, Holywatr makes them feel like two sides of the same experience.
The band handled production themselves, while Josh Wilbur—whose credits include Lamb of God, Korn, Trivium, and more takes care of the mix, giving the track enough weight to hit hard without losing the smoother character established in its verses. And the story behind the song is perhaps even more entertaining than the music itself.
“They say love finds a way – in this case, it found its way into someone else’s green room on our last tour,” the band shares.
With that confession in mind, “green room” feels less like a traditional love song and more like the soundtrack to a decision made somewhere between soundcheck and the final encore.
There is something inherently dangerous about a song that knows exactly when not to go full throttle. “green room” doesn’t immediately throw the listener into a wall of guitars. Instead, Holywatr lets the tension breathe. Patrick Middleton’s vocals arrive with a relaxed confidence that almost feels conversational, creating the impression that you’re being let in on something you probably weren’t supposed to hear. Then the track starts changing.
The drums become more pronounced. The guitars begin pushing forward. What initially feels intimate gradually becomes physical, and when the chorus finally arrives, Holywatr opens the door and lets the heavier side of the band take over. That transition is the song’s biggest strength.
