West Coast artist, songwriter, and producer JasonMartin, also known as Problem, is taking his talents from music into television with his acting debut as Trig in Episode 3, “Family Matters,” of FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga.
While this marks his first major acting role on the series, JasonMartin’s involvement goes far beyond appearing on screen. He also serves as a Creative Consultant, Original Lyric Writer, and Vocal Producer, helping shape the musical direction and overall identity of the show.
His work continues behind the scenes as well. Alongside Emil Pinnock, JasonMartin serves as Executive Producer of both the official companion podcast, The Drop: A Snowfall Saga After Show, and The Drop: A Snowfall Saga Soundtrack. New songs from the soundtrack are being released each week following the latest episode.
The soundtrack brings together an impressive group of West Coast voices, including Terrace Martin, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, Kurupt, and JasonMartin, further connecting the series to the culture and sound that inspired it.
JasonMartin credits Senior Executive Consultant Jimmy Chris with helping him make the jump into television, saying Chris believed in his abilities and encouraged him to take the opportunity. He also expressed his gratitude toward creator and showrunner Malcolm Spellman for the trust and support he received throughout the process.
For JasonMartin, the transition from music to scripted television has been a natural one. His experience in West Coast hip-hop gives him a unique perspective when it comes to building the sound and visual world of The Drop. His goal has been to help ensure the series feels authentic to its cultural roots.
One of the show’s musical moments also connects directly to the legacy of the late Nipsey Hussle. JasonMartin and the show’s music team recently discussed how an unreleased Nipsey verse became part of the official theme song during an episode of Behind the Beat on the Snowfall YouTube channel.
A Compton native and Grammy-nominated creative, JasonMartin has spent years building a career across songwriting, production, and creative direction. He has worked with artists including Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Rapsody, and Lefty Gunplay, among others.
His screen work isn’t entirely new, either. His previous credits include writing, producing, and starring in A Compton Story, appearing on Real Husbands of Hollywood, and creating the theme song for the animated series Lil Kev.
JasonMartin’s television career is already continuing to grow. He is set to appear in the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic Snoop, scheduled for release on August 6, 2027, and will also take on acting and creative consulting duties for Kevin Hart’s upcoming project Chocolate Droppa. With music, acting, and creative direction now coming together, The Drop: A Snowfall Saga represents another chapter in JasonMartin’s expanding career.
