Philadelphia metalcore innovators Kaonashi are back with a fresh burst of controlled chaos. Released today through Equal Visions Records, “Typing…” marks the beginning of a new creative era for the band following the conclusion of their long-running Lemon House High concept.
For years, Kaonashi have built their identity around a collision of technical metalcore, frantic rhythms, unpredictable arrangements, and emotionally volatile storytelling. Their Lemon House High saga stretched across four releases, beginning with 2018’s Why Did You Do It? and concluding with 2025’s I Want To Go Home. With that chapter now closed, “Typing…” feels less like a continuation and more like the band deliberately tearing down the walls and starting again.
Produced by Randy LeBoeuf, whose credits include The Acacia Strain and Gideon, the new single throws the listener directly into Kaonashi’s most unstable tendencies. Jagged guitar work, fractured rhythms, abrasive tones, and sudden shifts create an instrumental landscape that constantly feels on the verge of collapsing.
At the center of that storm is vocalist Peter Rono, whose unmistakable high-register screams slice through the track with an almost frantic urgency. His delivery matches the music’s nervous energy perfectly, turning every line into another emotional explosion.
The accompanying music video, directed by midvessel, places the band in front of a power plant for a performance that matches the song’s industrial intensity. Rather than attempting to soften Kaonashi’s eccentricity, the visual embraces it, creating an appropriately turbulent backdrop for the band’s new era. And Kaonashi aren’t simply looking backward.
From August 20–22, the Philadelphia group will host their three day Never Home festival, celebrating their catalog with a different set each night. The event will also bring together tattoo artists, local food vendors, and a stacked lineup featuring The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Year Of The Knife, Sabella, Heavy // Hitter, The Hirs Collective, and more.
The band will then hit the road beginning September 5, joining The Callous Daoboys for a North American run with Girl Of Glass and Wielded Steel. Following that trek, Kaonashi will tour alongside The Number Twelve Looks Like You, with Blind Equation and Differences appearing on select dates.
With “Typing…,” Kaonashi make one thing clear: the Lemon House High story may be finished, but the chaos certainly isn’t.
