After years of performing on some of the biggest stages in pop music, Kendall Schmidt is embracing a more personal side of his artistry. The Nashville-based musician, widely recognized for his role in Big Time Rush, has released “Good Love,” a stripped-back, reflective single that explores how a meaningful relationship can reshape the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
Rather than leaning into the polished, high-energy pop sound that defined much of his career, Schmidt takes a quieter approach, allowing warmth, vulnerability, and understated instrumentation to lead the way. Created at home, the track draws inspiration from the intimate songwriting and vocal delivery of early Bon Iver, giving the release a raw, unfiltered quality that places the emotion ahead of the production.
At its heart, “Good Love” examines the subtle ways relationships influence our everyday lives. Stress, frustration, and the weight of personal responsibilities can change how we treat the people around us, but the right connection can bring a sense of calm and understanding that feels almost transformative. For Schmidt, that realization became the foundation of a song rooted in the power of emotional compatibility and the comfort of being understood.
The release also reflects a new chapter in Schmidt’s life. Since becoming a husband and father, his perspective has continued to evolve, informing a more grounded approach to both songwriting and creativity. Rather than chasing the scale of his previous pop endeavors, he is turning toward music that feels closer to home, drawing from lived experiences and the relationships that matter most.
Schmidt’s journey spans far beyond his work with Big Time Rush, the Nickelodeon series and pop group that became an international phenomenon. The band went on to headline global tours and perform at major venues, including Madison Square Garden and Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome. He later explored a different creative direction through the alt-pop duo Heffron Drive, continuing to develop his identity as a musician and collaborator.
With “Good Love,” Schmidt offers a glimpse into an artist who is increasingly interested in the moments that happen away from the spotlight. The single trades grand gestures for everyday intimacy, finding meaning in the small shifts that occur when love changes not only how we feel, but who we become.
