Radio Free Alice Deliver a Frenzied Post Punk Anthem With “Kick in the Shins”

Australian new wave/post-punk outfit Radio Free Alice return with their latest offering, “Kick in the Shins,” a sharp and restless track that captures the band’s ability to blend chaotic energy with clever storytelling. Driven by vocalist Noah Learmonth’s fast-paced lyrical observations and the explosive edge of Michael Phillips’ saxophone, the song feels like a whirlwind journey through confusion, frustration, and the strange realities of modern life.

Rather than simply embracing post-punk’s darker tendencies, Radio Free Alice inject the genre with a sense of movement and unpredictability. “Kick in the Shins” balances frantic rhythms with moments of infectious melody, creating a track that feels equally suited for a crowded venue or a late night walk through the city. The song’s restless momentum mirrors its themes navigating uncertainty, feeling disconnected, and trying to make sense of the world around you.

The track also continues the band’s international creative collaboration with acclaimed producers Ewan Pearson and Peter Katis, whose previous work includes artists such as Depeche Mode, Röyksopp, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, and The National. Their contributions help shape Radio Free Alice’s evolving sound, adding depth and atmosphere while preserving the band’s raw urgency.

Learmonth shared, “‘Kick in the Shins’ is a fusion of two songs that never felt all the way complete. We loved the verse of one of them and the chorus of the other, and it worked when we combined the two. We wanted to create a song you could jump around to. At its core, it explores the feeling of being confused by the culture around you, and the isolation that often comes with that confusion.”
