If Not For Me Step Into a New Era With Where The Light Begins To Fade

Metalcore is often at its strongest when a band refuses to stay in one emotional lane. If Not For Me are leaning fully into that idea with their new album, Where The Light Begins To Fade, arriving August 14 via Thriller Records.

Rather than building the record around one singular feeling, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania band use the album to explore the messier parts of being human betrayal, heartbreak, grief, trauma, desire, anger, healing, and the struggle to move forward when some wounds refuse to close.

The album’s focus track, “Prey For Me,” adds another layer to that story, joining previously released songs including “Love To Hate Me,” “Say It To My Face,” and “Broken Throne.” Across the tracklist, If Not For Me appear less interested in repeating a formula and more focused on discovering just how much they can do within their sound.

For vocalist Patrick Glover, that evolution came with an entirely different creative process. With the band balancing songwriting and recording around an intense touring schedule, Where The Light Begins To Fade required a willingness to experiment, scrap ideas, collaborate with others, and move away from the methods that had previously felt comfortable.

That change also affected the emotional foundation of the album. Instead of writing every song directly from personal pain, Glover found himself stepping outside of his own experiences and approaching certain stories from different perspectives. The result is a record that still carries plenty of personal weight, but doesn’t allow one emotion or one sound to define it.

Lyrically, the album moves through everything from jealousy and lust to grief and trauma, while the band’s songwriting expands into more melodic, aggressive, catchy, and emotionally charged territory. Tracks such as “Close To Closure,” “Novocaine,” “Pretty Lies,” “Retrograde,” and “Save Me” offer a more vulnerable side, while songs like “Teeth,” “Lie Awake,” and “Unholy” bring a different kind of energy to the record.

What makes Where The Light Begins To Fade particularly interesting is that its title feels less like an ending and more like a transition. It’s about sitting somewhere between darkness and whatever comes next and figuring out what you’re willing to leave behind along the way.

After years of growth, touring, and experimentation, If Not For Me are entering this next chapter with a record that pushes beyond the boundaries they’ve already established. August 14 marks the beginning of that next chapter.
