Emma Ruth Rundle has officially released her latest full-length album, These Killing Times, arriving through her independent imprint Errant Child. Across the record, the multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, poet, and multidisciplinary artist delivers one of her most forceful and emotionally immediate bodies of work yet, blending personal vulnerability with anger, resistance, and a sharp feminist perspective.
For this release, Rundle returns to a full-band format, expanding the scale of her sound while allowing her increasingly direct vocal delivery to take center stage. The result is a record that feels bigger, brighter, and more urgent, with layered instrumentation that brings a new intensity to her songwriting.
Joining Rundle throughout the album is an impressive collection of collaborators, including drummer Jess Gowrie (Chelsea Wolfe, Mrs. Piss), longtime collaborator Troy Zeigler, as well as Patrick Shiroishi, Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos), Gina Gleason (Baroness), Marissa Nadler, Lukas Frank (Storefront Church), and Amelia Baker (Cinder Well). Together, they help create a dynamic sonic landscape that moves between atmospheric textures, powerful full-band arrangements, and moments of striking emotional openness.
At its core, These Killing Times is concerned with the world surrounding us and the choices we make within it. Rundle examines responsibility, community, capitalism, and the ways individuals respond when the systems around them feel increasingly overwhelming. The album draws inspiration from a period marked by political unrest, the growth of Christian nationalism, increasingly divisive public discourse, and the anxiety that can accompany watching those developments unfold.
Yet the album isn’t defined solely by anger or despair. Running alongside its heavier themes is an equally important desire for love, connection, and companionship. Rundle explores the tension between finding comfort in other people while simultaneously confronting some of humanity’s darkest realities. Love becomes a form of refuge, offering moments of tenderness amid an otherwise turbulent landscape.
That contrast gives These Killing Times much of its emotional complexity. The album can feel confrontational and deeply personal at once, allowing fury and tenderness to exist side by side rather than forcing one emotion to overpower the other.
Rundle will bring the new material to stages across North America beginning next month. She’ll first appear as a solo performer supporting All Them Witches throughout October before launching her THESE KILLING TIMES Fall headlining tour, where she’ll be joined by a full band and Cinder Well as support.
Looking further ahead, Rundle has also announced a Spring 2027 European and U.K. tour, which will include an appearance at Roadburn.
