BVDMIND is a genre-blurring artist whose sound exists at the intersection of aggression, nostalgia, and emotional vulnerability. Drawing influence from a wide spectrum of music that ranges from nu-metal and hip-hop to R&B, dubstep, and hyperpop which his work defies categorization, instead forming a constantly evolving sonic identity shaped by experimentation and instinct. Rooted deeply in pop culture and gaming nostalgia, his creative world is filled with references to video games, horror films, and internet era aesthetics, giving his music a distinct personality that feels both chaotic and intentional.
Interviewer: For new fans that discover BVD MIND, can you give some insight about who you are as an artist and what led you to create the soundscape that you have?
BVDMIND: “Influence is the biggest part of what creates my soundscape. I’ve been obsessed with music and video games since FOREVER, being raised on classic and nu metal before finding influence through other genres like hip-hop and r&b, dubstep, hyperpop and more through my teens. I have 0 preference of genre which means that all of my work as BVDMIND (so far) has been an amalgamation of influence. Not to mention the constant references to all things nerdy in my songs. It’s been tough to solidify a specific sound working alone. With no barriers it’s easy to go off the rails and make songs like “SELF-MADE CASUALTY” and then come back with tracks like “FREAKAZOID”. However, now working closely with my live band and an engineer on this new project, I think this next EP will speak volumes to finding the new official sound of “BVDMIND”. “
Interviewer: Are there any songs that you would tell a person to listen to that represents you fully as an artist?
BVDMIND: “I would 100% recommend my new track and music video “FREAKAZOID”. It is a goodbye to the classic aggressive hip-hop sound of BVDMIND, as we dive into a new sound & feel. I would also say check out “BEFORE CODA” (a personal favorite) and if you want something REAL emo, check out “SMOKE & MIRRORS” from the “DEAD ON ARRIVAL EP”.”
Interviewer: What inspires you that has nothing to do with music?
BVDMIND: “The thing that inspires me the most that is NOT music is 100% pop culture nostalgia. I grew up completely obsessed with Nintendo, Horror movies, etc. I am so happy that I’ve created a brand in which I can show my love for these things in my lyrics, promotional content, and music videos to a community that shares that love.”
Interviewer: What creative habit would people be surprised to learn about?
BVDMIND: “Creative habit? It might be TMI but for some reason I write my best lyrics and melodies on the toilet HAHAHA“
Interviewer: If someone wanted to understand who you really are, what wouldn’t they learn from social media?
BVDMIND: “Well for one, my real name is Eric! Which is nowhere on any of my socials haha. BVDMIND is a character that is a personification of unfiltered emotion, so he often on stage, in songs, and in videos comes across as very cocky, angry, basically just a very out there guy. I think people would be surprised that behind that character I’m an absolute IDIOT and just love to hang with friends and talk about Zelda and i think I’m much nicer than BVDMIND is haha.“
Interviewer: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received from someone outside the music industry?
BVDMIND: “Best advice i’ve received from someone outside the music industry will always be from my mother, who has told me since a child to chase after what I want to be and to never give up on it. No matter what I wanted to be growing up, astronaut, mad scientist, YouTuber, movie director, she ALWAYS told me to go after it. So it is lowkey her fault that I am chasing this dream of music no matter how impossible it may SEEM, it led me to meet every one of you who listen! “
Interviewer: Looking back, what moment quietly changed your career more than people realize?
BVDMIND: “A moment that changed my career more than people realize is working on our cover of “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN” with THE UNCRTN. Meeting that band has taught me so many things about the industry, marketing, artistry in general, and given me some of my closest friends I’ve ever had who have become such an integral part of my life. “
Interviewer: What advice would your current self give to the version of you recording your first release?
BVDMIND: “Advice I would give to the version of myself recording my first release is it’s okay to have no idea what you are doing. Just keep creating, and your passion will guide you and teach you. Starting out as BVDMIND during COVID, I had nothing but time and a laptop. I taught myself how to make beats, to mix, produce, record, basically learn the entire process from start to finish using nothing but YouTube tutorials. I was so afraid of feeling like I had no idea what I was doing, when looking back I realize that is the best part.
You should never feel afraid to learn something new, and as long as the passion is there, you will figure it out and create the art that you want to create. You don’t need a fancy setup, money, or connections. You just need dedication and creativity. “
Interviewer: What’s the most memorable crowd interaction you’ve experienced?
BVDMIND: “I once played my most vulnerable song “ACID RAIN” on an outdoor stage, and as soon as I started performing it, it started raining. Everyone was pretty emotional. Also Hallowmania of 2025, I felt so deeply connected to the crowd that night, but most of all, when we perform “BEFORE CODA” and those flashlights go up, and you can finally see each and every individual person in the crowd light up, that will ALWAYS hit me hard. “
Interviewer: What’s next for BVD MIND?
BVDMIND: “What’s next for BVDMIND? The “FUTURE BASED ON SOUNDS” EP. It is an entrance to the future of BVDMIND. My live band Daniel and Mars have become a part of the writing process for the first time ever, and after FREAKAZOID says goodbye to that OG BVDMIND vibe, I feel we are starting to realize what our sound should be, mixing all of our favorite genres and outside influences into one. It’s some of the best music I have ever made, and I can’t wait to show the world what we are creating.“
