New Reality is a band built around raw emotion, honesty, and a constantly evolving soundscape that bridges heaviness with melody. Emerging from the remnants of a previous project, the group formed with a shared intention to create music that feels both personal and expansive, shaped by each member’s diverse influences and unified by a common creative vision. Their songs explore themes of vulnerability, identity, ambition, loss, and self-reflection, often expressing what’s difficult to articulate in everyday life through layered instrumentation and cathartic lyricism. With a focus on authenticity over perfection, New Reality’s writing process has become a space for release and discovery, sometimes even revealing deeper truths to the band members themselves.
Interviewer: For new fans, are you able to give insight about the band and what led you to create the soundscape that you have?
New Reality: “This band has always been about raw emotion and exploring a sound that can convey those emotions to the best of our ability. We strive to touch on different topics through a variety of sounds all while maintaining cohesion. We all certainly listen to some of the same music, but we also bring a lot of different styles to the table when it comes to writing new music.”
Interviewer: What part of yourselves do you reveal through your music that you struggle to express in everyday life?
New Reality: “I really try to be as honest and open as possible. All of the songs have a meaning or a story to be told, and oftentimes it’s easier to express these through melody and song than it is to talk about them.”
Interviewer: Has creating music ever changed your perspective on who you are as a person?
New Reality: “More often than not. There’s been songs where I sat down and finished the lyrics and read them over and it was like a wave of relief washed over me, a kind of “that needed to be said” sort of situation. // Writing and playing music, out of most things I’ve done in my life, is one of the few things where I can look back and honestly tell myself that I was meant to do it.”
Interviewer: What inspired the band’s name?
New Reality: “If there’s one thing I (Cory) wanted out of a new project being named, was for it to come about similarly to other bands like The Story So Far and All Time Low. If you know, you know. Our former founding member Evan actually pitched the idea from a Walmart parking lot, and the rest is history. The band was formed out of the kind of falling out of a previous project. New Reality just fits perfectly.“
Interviewer: Out of all your releases, was there a particular song that was especially challenging to write or record?
New Reality: “So far the hardest part was our first record kind of as a whole. We were still trying to find “our sound” and getting all the pieces in place was a bit more challenging than we had originally anticipated. We’re all super happy with the album as a whole and it really allowed us to explore where we wanted to go afterwards.”
Interviewer: If the band could choose one song for a first time listener, what song would it be and why?
New Reality: ““Opportunist” for sure. For me it encompasses exactly what we’re aiming for, it has the right amount of heavy mixed with a catchy chorus, a groovy but still hard hitting breakdown. It’s the total package. After releasing a full album, Opportunist is the result of us truly starting to define who we are.”
Interviewer: What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as musicians?
New Reality: “Personally it’s been finding ways to get our name out and get our music out to as many people as possible. In such a saturated market it’s hard to “beat the algorithm” so to speak and make sure people are finding and hearing you and your content. It can sometimes feel very defeating in a business where it feels like the number of streams you have defines your abilities to write good music.”
Interviewer: What has this band taught each of you about trust?
Steve: “It’s been a really easy to trust experience so far honestly. Everyone is responsible and experienced so it’s really easy to trust everyone to do their part.“
Cory: “The boys have taught me that no matter what happens, when we butt heads on ideas or decisions, we’ve always got each other’s best interests in mind.“
Tim: “Working with a group as talented as these guys is awesome. It’s so cool knowing that even when I hear an idea I can’t really get my head around, I have full faith in everyone’s talents and vision that we’re gonna do something special. “
Zach: “It’s taught me that we all have a similar goal. Which is to create the best possible music we can. That sometimes involves arguing and butting heads. But at the end of the day it comes from a place of everyone truly loving what we’ve created. No matter what, we have each others backs.”
Interviewer: What topic have you not written about yet but feel compelled to explore?
New Reality: “There’s a couple, some I’ve written about for upcoming releases. But the topic in particular I want to explore is the desire to leave an impression on the world that lasts beyond myself. It’s always been something I’ve wanted to achieve. // Loss. Loss doesn’t always come in the form of losing a loved one or a close friend. I think it would be an interesting challenge to write about that.”
Interviewer: Has a fan ever shared a story that fundamentally changed how you view your music?
New Reality: “I’m not sure I have a story that’s “changed” how I view our music. I’ve heard some stories that make me understand just how much a song can resonate with someone. Fans have shared their personal experiences and interpretations of our songs and it’s been such a meaningful connection to make with our fans and I’m eternally grateful to hear each and every one of their stories. I think instead of changing the way we view our music, it’s further strengthened our feelings that what we’re doing, while it may have initially been for us, goes beyond just us.”
