Following the arrival of Acknowledge Kindness, The Reds, Pinks & Purples are extending the story with True Love Daydream, a companion collection set for release on September 25. The new record will receive a deliberately limited release, available digitally and on cassette.

Glenn Donaldson and the band will also bring the project to the stage, with a Brooklyn performance at Baby’s All Right on October 2 marking part of a brief U.S. run.

Created during the same prolific period that produced Acknowledge Kindness, True Love Daydream offers a more spacious counterpart to its companion album. Donaldson describes the collection as “a little boat set adrift off the shore of the main album,” an image that perfectly captures its drifting, atmospheric character.

Rather than following a traditional song-driven structure from beginning to end, the collection allows its sounds to breathe. Three tracks unfold as atmospheric instrumentals, creating stretches of shimmering ambience while still carrying the introspective warmth and emotional weight that have become hallmarks of The Reds, Pinks & Purples.

Leading the way is “Every Shade Of Blue,” now available to hear. The track offers an intriguing glimpse into the direction Donaldson was beginning to explore while working toward Acknowledge Kindness.

Reflecting on the song, Donaldson explains that it was written earlier and became an important turning point in shaping the project’s evolving sound. He wanted to introduce a stronger folk influence without leaning into anything traditionally folk, allowing the song to occupy a more unconventional space.

The track also features atmospheric contributions from Steven R. Smith, a longtime friend of Donaldson’s who creates dark, instrumental music and has collaborated on several pieces throughout the past year.

Perhaps most significantly, “Every Shade Of Blue” represents one of those rare moments when Donaldson feels a song reached its final form. Known for continually revisiting and refining his work, he notes that the lyrics are among the few he considers completely finished.

With True Love Daydream, The Reds, Pinks & Purples offer something less like an extension of Acknowledge Kindness and more like a parallel world, quieter, hazier and allowed to wander at its own pace.
